hey all, i'm a 25 year old from australia moving to the uk for two years in two weeks time, to live probably in bristol.

i miss the days when i was a carefree lesbian, i've gotten into bullshit with guys in the past few years and am so annoyed and jaded about them now that i want to start focusing on girls again (although english guys do seem to be pretty nice in comparison to australian guys). i've joined pinksofa and hope i find a nice lesbian community living in bristol.

not much else to say at the moment, just thought i'd say hi. anyone from bristol on here?

I posted this on my journal about a week ago and am posting it here in hopes that you guys will be helpful :)

As much as I enjoy the youth LBGT group, aimed at 13-25 year olds, the fact that we don't do any actives is, well, depressing, and it does make the group *thinks* boring. Whilst, I love talking and listening to the others in group, I think it is vital that we need to do something, any kind of activity, to stop the group from going ‘stale’.

Fact is when new people come they will want to do something other than sit around in awkward silence, and being bored. God knows I get bored, and sometimes I just don't wanna go to group....knowing that we'll just sit around.

Whilst, I have made suggestions, the whole cost factor continues to arise…, which is why I am turning to you guys, I need your help for activities.

I joined the group sometime in late February, I can’t believe it’ll be a year, but when I joined I was ‘pushed into the deep end’ as the group were making ideas for LGBT history month, and came up with having a stall displaying LGBT things, and the following week we were working on a massive sheet painting it…..for me it was great because we were doing things….

Now next month is LGBT history month, …and last Saturday I asked the group for ideas as to what we can do for LBGT month, and for Saturdays in general, and this is what we all came up with:

Disco—dress up.
Calendar of us
Play
Collage
Short film
Graffiti boards…

If we are successful for funding we will be entitled to £250, if not then I guess we’ll have to ‘work for free’….

Which as I said earlier is where you all come in, can you give me any other ideas which will be workable for under £250 or for free?

Or ideas which we can use every week, to ensure that new people stay and don’t find the group boring, because we don’t really do any type of activity?

Hey everyone,

A very happy new year to you all!

My name is Imogen, I live in Cambridge UK. I was born female and am happy with my body but consider my self Gender Queer. I came out as gay at 14 (nearly wrote 144!!) and have been with my partner for a number of years now.

I am a photography student in Cambridge and I am just about to go into the final term of my 3rd year. I have covered quite a few topics over the last three years including self harm, mental health, eating disorders and physical disability. You can see some of my work here: Flickr or my own web site here: Indigo Clouds Photography

This term I want to do a project surrounding 'Gender Queer' and 'Transsexuality'. So I am looking for people who might want to be involved in the project. I will be hoping to photograph a few aspects of the topic including things like: following someone through aspects of their transition, photographing people with their families, following people to Dr's appointments, visiting and photographing both home & work, doing some studio shots (including partners, with/with out make up, in underwear etc) .. For helping me out you would get a copy of your images on a disk, a copy of your favorite 5 printed up to A2 and many many thank yous from me!

Having dealt with subjects that are often unknown to family members or friends I am more than happy for people to remain anonymous. As you can see from my self harm images most participants don't have their face in the images. I would like for some of those who wish to take part to be able to have their face in the images, purely due to the nature of the project.

I don't have any money to pay those who take part but I could help with travel costs if people are on a low income and I am more than happy to provide accommodation in the form of the sofa in my front room!

Please feel free to contact me with questions, anything you might like to know. Also, feel free to pass this post onto friends who might not see it on LJ or even to other communities. I would also like people to take part in a survey that will be part of the final project so if you would like to receive that you can get in touch.

Finally, during previous projects people have contacted me suggesting that aspects of the project might be highlighting the 'wrong' parts of the issues. I warmly welcome this contact and can only understand the subject to a point with out this source of information.

Kind Regards,

Tell us something about yourself: Christ, I hate these things, I never know what to put. I am a dork, and at times, dense, but, God made me dense, so it really isn't my fault. I'm just the innocent bystander who somehow had gotten stuck with the dorky, dense-at times-wand, meh. No, seriously, though, I am hoping to go into photography, I obtained a C in photography GCSE, yay me! But being the dork, that I am, ending up misplacing the certificate. But, in September I will be taking up photography AS, hopefully. I just hope that my crush on my photography teacher has died, *headdesk*

Anyhoo, I need some help and figured it was time I bite the bullet, so to speak.

Could someone please recommend any good clubs, pubs, bars, meeting places-they do exist, right? in Wolverhampton? Or a good meeting/gathering place in Birmingham?

I need to finally get out there and start meeting other lesbians, but I just need some pointers as to where to go.

This year's women-only Reclaim the Night march is rapidly approaching. It's on Saturday 24 November 2007. Assemble in Trafalgar Square at 6pm.

The march will be followed by a mixed rally for men and women in the University of London Union with speakers, music and bands until late.

Me and my womb [Nov. 13th, 2007|11:10 pm]

Together Cherry Pop have worked on photographic projects surrounding the issues of disabled women and the wide range of body image issues women with mental health impairments experience. Cherry Pop are now working on a short film that moves on from body images issues and over to how disabled women feel about their womb.

Cherry Pop Productions are now seeking disabled women to contribute to the documentary entitled "Me and my Womb".

Brought to the attention of the media recently was the story of Katie, a 15 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy, who’s mother fears she may experience painful periods and is therefore requesting a hysterectomy.

Katie’s CP means she is unable to walk, hold her head or communicate with speech. Assumed to have profound learning impairments, Katie’s mother is concerned no one will be able to explain to her why she is teary, craving chocolate, bleeding or in pain.

As expected, this news story has raised some serious questions surrounding the care of young girls with impairments and how their development into young women should be treated.

Cherry Pop Production are therefore looking for women with impairments of all ages to take part in a film where we will explore the moral, legal, political and ethical issues this situation has raised.
Do we, disabled women, have the right to a womb? Regardless of your desire for children or your decision to not have them, how do you feel about your womb?

Would you like to contribute?

We need for you to either send us a *pre-recorded video of your story or for an interview to be arranged to take place in either London, Cambridge or Manchester by Febuary 1st 2008. Please feel free to pass this to all who might be interested.

Please contact Jo Barnes on 07793737489 or Imogen.Jo@Gmail.com for more information.

*Pre-recorded video can either be done on DV tape and send via post or on a web cam and sent in an e mail. Your tapes should not exceed 15mins and tapes will only be returned if sent with a S.E.A.
